What does a 708 Board do?

  • Evaluates your community’s need

  • Creates targeted local support

  • Coordinates comprehensive system of services to help with:

    • Mental health issues

    • Intellectual and developmental disabilities

    • Substance use issues

 
 

Why Do We Need A 708 Board?

    • Mental Health crisis calls were up over 20% in 2020 and remain higher.

    • Among US adults, 1 in 5 have experienced a mental illness

    • 1 in 20 have experienced a serious mental illness

    • 1 in 6 children have a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder.

    • Over the next 10 years, 28,000 children in Illinois will move onto a statewide list, waiting for services.

    • The percent of children with a developmental disability has increased over the past 10 years.

    • More than 50% of Illinois agencies currently have inadequate staffing.

    • Drug overdose deaths reached an all-time high of 100,000 Americans in 2020

    • Illinois opioid deaths increased by 20%
